Shekar Kammula on big heroes

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Director Shekar Kammula is a hotshot director. He is now easily the most sought after director in Tollywood. He gave a super duper hit with an almost all new star cast with ‘Happy Days’. The film is one of the biggest hits of 2007. But Shekar Kammula is a very levelheaded guy and is not carried away easily.

Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu and several others have expressed their interest to star in a film under his direction. Shekar is exploring various options. He feels that directing big heroes is very difficult. They all come with a heavy baggage of a big pre-set image. They also carry the burden of the expectations of their fans. It is not an easy task to live up to the expectations of the fans of big stars, says Shekar. Balakrishna’s film ‘Okka Mogadu’ is a recent example.

Shekar Kammula was presented with K V Reddy award in Hyderabad the other day. Akkineni Nageswara Rao presented the award to Shekar Kammula at a glittering function at the Tyagaraya Gana Sabha in Hyderabad. The Chaitanya Bharathi Educational Society organized the function. It is well known that Shekar studied in CBIT.

Chandrababu outdoes Chiranjeevi

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Former Andhra Pradesh chief minister and Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu has overtaken film actor Chiranjeevi in blood bank politics by launching a virtual blood bank on Monday.

The blood bank, dedicated in the memory of former chief minister and founder of Telugu Desam N.T. Rama Rao, is one of its unique kind in the country. The TD leadership has enrolled thousands of volunteers for blood donation through the NTR Virtual Blood Bank.

Governor N.D. Tiwari launched the blood bank at Basava Rama Tarakam Cancer Hospital. The party has already collected 50,000 units of blood and has donated 25,000 units to Red Cross Society. “Now blood donation is just a call away. Our volunteers are ready round the clock. The call centre can be approached 24X7,” he said

Naidu, who has shifted his focus to social services after the TD lost the Assembly polls in May 2001, has procured blood tubular separators for the blood bank. Anyone who needs blood of any group and of any amount can call up 040-30799999 and the Telugu Desam volunteers will reach the patient to donate blood.

The facility is available in the remote areas also. People in Hyderabad can take blood from the NTR blood bank. In districts, party volunteers will be posted for helping any patient in need of blood.

“The NTR Blood Bank is the most sophisticated in the country. It is far superior to the blood bank being run by Chiranjeevi. Our equipment is the latest from the medical laboratory industry. Facilities are also there to separate plasma and blood corpuscles,” said P. Srisailam, the state coordinator for NTR virtual bank.

Why Ash chosen over Deepika

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

Ending all speculations, Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been chosen to star opposite Tamil superstar Rajinikanth in director Shankar’s forthcoming science fiction project titled ‘Robot’.

Earlier, there were speculations that Shankar, who had made the runaway Tamil hit ‘Shivaji – The Boss’ with Rajnikanth, was considering casting newcomer Deepika Padukone for the role.

Rumors were rife that Shankar had approached Deepika for the role, but was aghast at the fees charged by the newcomer.

Sources said that he was also considering Nayanthara to act opposite Rajnikanth in the film. However, the speculations have died following Aishwarya’s confession that she has been offered the role and she is very excited over it.

It may be mentioned here that the former Miss World had earlier acted in Shankar’s ‘Jeans’ in 1998.

According to Aishwarya, work on the film’s schedule has begun and the filmmakers are trying to accommodate her dates for the shooting.

She said that there had been so many offers in the past that tried to bring her and Shankar together and she hopes this works out fine.

In addition to ‘Robot’, Aishwarya has also been offered two international projects ‘Bhopal Movie’, a film based on the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, and Sir Ben Kingsley’s ‘Shah Jahan’.

So, while the former Miss World became the Bachchan bahu in year 2007, with big projects and banners coming her way, even 2008 promises to be a great year for her professionally!
