Music rights of ‘Kinng’ sold at Rs. 13.5 crores

In what must have been surely a record making or breaking deal the music rights of Akshay Kumar’s next big thing on screen-Singh is Kinng was bought for a whopping Rs.13.5 crores. This eye-popping rate was offered by Times Music.

Now where does this put Hindi film music? Industry records say that even last year’s biggie Om Shanthi Om’s music was sold for only 7 crore, an amount that looks small now when compared to Singh is Kinng. We don’t know why Times was ready to offer such a price, but a good guess is that Akshay Kumar’s infallible status at the box office was an inspiration.

Forget the latest Tashan, Akshay has hardly put a foot wrong in Bollywood for the past couple of years. There is also the quality of the music that we must consider. The rights holders would have heard the songs and must have been very impressed for them to put so much at stake. The man behind the music is Pritam, the most consistent winner in Bollywood these days. Singh is Kinng is directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah.
