Saturday, January 19th, 2008

DTS mixing work is in progress for Sundarakanda directed by Bapu and produced by Aparna under the banner of Chaitra Cinema Circuit with Naresh and Charmi in the lead. Producer Aparna said, ‘There is no need to speculate how a film would be when it is from the combination of Bapu-Ramana. Director Bapu has portrayed Charmi’s role in his own inimitable style. Mullapudi Ramana has given a fantastic story and Bapu has moulded it in tune with it. National award-winner Vidyasagar has composed melodious tunes for all the songs. We are making efforts to launch the audio soon and release the film as early as possible.’ Naresh said, ‘I am very happy to work with Bapu. I am sure the role will earn me a good name as an artiste.’ Charmi said, ‘The film will take me closer to the Telugu audiences, especially the women-folk.’ Prema, Sunil Sharma, Ranganath, Rallapalli, Dhamavarapu Subrahmanyam, Vizag Prasad, Duvvasi Mohan, Lakshmipati, Kondavalasa Lakshmana Rao, Pruthvi, Sangeetha, Jayalalitha and others are in the cast. Camera is by P.R.K. Raju, Petrofab International, UAE, is the presenter of the film and Tummala Bhanuprakash Reddy is the co-producer.

The young and bubbly Kajal Agarwal is a late entry in Telugu. She made people to sit up and take notice with her action in Teja’s Lakshmikalyanam. The film did not do well at the box office but many directors noticed Kajal and she has bagged quite a few roles. Kajal then went on to act in the lead role in Krishna Vamsi’s Chandamama. She did a good job and the film was also a big hit. Kajal now has come up with another good performance in ‘Porudu’. She has been widely appreciated for looks as well as here acting talent.

On the other side, Charmi has been around for quite some time. She acted with some big heroes including Nagarjuna. She later on slipped and did not have many films. She was playing some bit roles and as a second heroine. All this changed with ‘Manthra’. The film has given a new lease of life and also proved that Charmi can single handedly pull in the audiences to the theatres.

The two are now in direct competition to bag roles. They are both good looking and also ready to dare and bare. They are also now in the race to learn Telugu. Charmi being an early entrant has some advantage. Charmi now speaks good Telugu. Kajal is also pickling up Telugu and now can speak with ease. At this rate, Kajal will soon be dubbing in her own voice.

Sunday is remake of Anukokunda oka Roju

The Ajay Devgan-Ayesha Takia thriller is supposedly based on the Telugu film ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’

The promos of the Ajay Devgan-Ayesha Takia starrer ‘Sunday’ are on air. However, what is not known to many is that the film is supposedly a remake of the successful Telugu film ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’ (2005). It was directed by Chandrasekhar Yeleti and starred Jagapathi Babu and Charmy in lead roles. Now, Ajay and Ayesha are enacting their respective roles in the Hindi version directed by Rohit Shetty.

Rohit confirms, “We never tried to hide the fact about the film being a remake. It is better to let people know in advance rather than face embarrassment later.”

Does the producer of the original film know about this? “Pretty much,” says Rohit adding, “We have even bought the rights from them. There is no behind-the-back game happening here.”

Rohit, who had earlier directed ‘Golmaal’ and ‘Zameen’ adds, “I wish to make one thing clear that ‘Sunday’ is not an out and out remake of ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’. Our ‘Sunday’ is a complete entertainer. We have just taken the basic germ of the story and brought our own innovation to the concept and treatment.”

How different is the treatment of ‘Sunday’? “If you see the original, you would realise that it tends to get depressing and a little dark, especially towards the end. There is some kind of sadhu angle as well. In ‘Sunday’ there is none of that. The climax would catch everyone by surprise,” explains Rohit.

‘Sunday’ has six composers Sandeep Chowta, Shibani Kashyap, Daler Mehndi, Raghav Sachar, Pakistani band ‘Suroor’ and Amar Mohile coming together to create a song apiece. The film is produced by Kumar Mangat and Sunil Lulla (EROS).

‘Sundarakanda’ directed by Bapu and produced by Aparna on the banner of Chaitra Cinema Circuit with Naresh and Charmme in the lead is all set for release by the end of January. Producer Aparna says, ‘We are making efforts to launch the audio soon and release the film by the end of January. It is well aware that Bapu and Ramana are experts in moulding the Teluguness on the screen and ‘Sundarakanda’ is no different from that.

We are trying to portray the modern mentalities, their lifestyles, the attitudes of elderly people and the clash between both the generations. Each scene would be entertaining. Especially the scenes that were shot at Bobbili Fort, Vizianagaram and Araku would turn a feast to the audiences. We are confident that the music scored by Vidyasagar would please everyone.

Prema, Sunil Sharma, Ranganath, Rallapalli, Dhamavarapu Subrahmanyam, Vizag Prasad, Duvvasi Mohan, Lakshmipati, Kondavalasa Lakshmana Rao, Pruthvi, Sangeetha, Jayalalitha and others are in the cast. Camera is by PRK Raju, while Petrofab International, UAE, is the presenter of the film, and Tummala Bhanuprakash Reddy is the co-producer.

Heroines of 2007

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008
http://www.virakesari.lk/cinema/news/admin/news_img/uploaded/nayantara_070215_f3.jpg

When the year began, we knew who our No 1 heroine was. Now, we don’t!

There was tough rivalry between Ileana and Trisha. Kamlini Mukherjee looked very promising. Nayantara was busy dealing with her Simbu-controversies. Chaarmi was almost gone. But, before the end of the year, lot of things changed.

Genelia had one or two releases. Anuskha had her two releases. So did Bhavana. That was about it. There were occasional few from Bollywood- Amritha Rao in ‘Adithi’ and Karishma Kotak in ‘Shankardada Zindabad’.

Trisha managed to stay away from controversies for most part of the year. But she had a different kind of problem to deal with- her overenthusiastic fan club. There was once a time when heroes in Tamil refused to star with her because they were tired of her fanclub and its clashes with their fanclubs! She had starred with Vikram in a film named ‘Bheema’ and is still waiting for the film to surface.

Ileana is now going to star as Tarun’s heroine in a romantic film. Nobody knows if it is such a good idea.

Arthi Agarwal surprised her fans when she showed signs of moving on with her life. She had got married to one of her cousins whom she claims she fell in love with after the Tarun controversy ended.

Then, there was Mumait Khan. Her role in ‘Evadaithey Naakenthi’ was well-received. So, she starred in the next film ‘Maisamma IPS’ as heroine. It bombed.

Heroines from Malayalam didn’t play such a major role this time. Meera Jasmine, Bhavana, Samvritha and others appeared in couple of films. It’s a different story in Nayantara’s case.

She was fresh from the success of films like ‘Lakshmi’ and ‘Boss’. This year, she starred in ‘Tulasi’ and ‘Dubai Seenu’. Then, there was her special appearance in ‘Shivaji’. Now, in ‘Billa 2007’ (Tamil), she looks absolutely stunning.

Watch out for her in 2008. There are quite a good number of films lined up!

Kuchipui Venkat is now busy with John Appa Rao 40+. Krishna Bhagawan is playing the title role and Simran is the leading lady. Venkat now wants to make a film with the sexy Charmy and red star R Narayanamurthy. Narayanamurthy is known for making films that further the cause close to his heart. He has the tag of making red films – an obvious reference to his commitment to the cause of the communists. Charmy is now on a high with the success of her latest film ‘Manthra. A film in the combination of Charmy and Narayanamurthy will surely make waves. Kucipudi Venkat is expected to make an official announcement about his next project after his present film is released.

2007 - A Flashback

Monday, December 31st, 2007

2007 began on a happy note but towards the end of the year, flops flowed. Of the total 102 straight Telugu films released this year, only six films are blockbusters and six other movies made money. There were no trendsetting movies this year. Films that became blockbusters are all neatly packed commercial entertainers.

Allu Arjun and director Puri Jagannadh’s Desamuduru was the first film to hit the screens this year and it collected more than Rs 20 Crores. Puri had continued his success streak with this movie until he slipped off with Chirutha later.

While the ‘numero uno` star of Tollywood, megastar Chiranjeevi could not taste success with Shankardada Zindabad, NTR, who was going through rough patch, bounced back with Yamadonga. The film went to become the biggest grosser of 2007. It is estimated that the film touched Rs 30 Crores figure. Yet, the real star of this year is none other than the Venkatesh. He had two films this year – Adavari Matalaki Arthalu Verule, and Tulasi and both of them are blockbusters and collected Rs 45 Crores collectively.

Another top hero Balakrishna continued his streak of flops this year too. His Maharadhi (directed by P Vasu) could not lift his sagging career. Now he pines all his hopes on Okka Magadu that is hitting on Sankranthi 2008. Mahesh Babu too was down with luck this year. His much-hyped Athidhi that was released by UTV Motion Pictures failed miserably although it set new records in openings. His style was appreciated, though. For Prabhas, 2007 is most unlucky year. Two of his films – Yogi and Munna could not set the cash registers ringing.

Nagarjuna released his much-hyped Don on December 20th and it received thumbs down from critics although collections are encouraging. Among the smaller films that went on to become big hits, two films should be mentioned – Sekhar Kammula’s Happy Days, Srinu Vaitla directed Dhee and Gopichand’s Lakshyam. Sekhar’s campus love story became a rage among youth and the film that made with a shoestring budget of Rs 2.5 Crores collected more than Rs 12 Crores. The film’s songs composed by Mickey J Meyer are best among this year releases.

Regarding, Dhee, it released with no expectations and surprisingly made a huge impact. It established director Sreenu Vaitla who again delivered another hit this year with Ravi Teja and Nayantara starrer Dubai Seenu. Vishnu also became a star with Dhee.

Krishnavamsi’s Chandamama, EVV’s Attili Sattibabu, Charmee starrer Mantra, Operation Duryadhona, Evadaitey Nakenti, Yamagola, Seema Shastry are some of the movies that also made money this year.

Among the dubbed movies, only Rajnikant’s Sivaji became successful and rest of the 100 movies that released were damp squibs.

Blockbusters :2007

‘Desamuduru’, ‘Adavari Matalaki Arthalu Verule’, ‘Yamadonga’, ‘Lakshyam’, ‘Happy Days’ and ‘Tulasi’.

Popular Hero: Venkatesh (AMAV, Tulasi)
Popular Heroine: Nayantara (Tulasi, Dubai Seenu)
Top Grosser: Yamadonga
Best Film of the year: Happy Days

Charmy is giving sleepless nights to Mantra producers?

Saturday, December 29th, 2007
The image “http://www.andhrastudio.com/linkimages/Charmy.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

The young producers Ravi Prakash and Kalyanram made this film Mantra with heroine Charmy as their first attempt as producers. The film was made with the budget of Rs2.5 Crs and it is likely to collect rs10 Crs. The film is doing well at the box office but it is rumored that Charmy is giving sleepless nights to these producers.

1. The producers owe Rs5 lakhs to Charmy as the part of remuneration at the time of film release and they promised to pay once the film released. But Charmy sent a letter to Lab saying that producers owe some money to her and not to release the prints until they pay back my money.

2. When the producers met her manager, he asked for Malayalam remake rights of the film for convincing Charamy for Rs5 lakhs.

3. Again Charmy raised her objection for selling out the Tamil remake right of the film without her consent. She wanted to take the remake rights of the film for Tamil.

4. Now the fresh trouble is- she is putting all conditions to attend success meets and success tour. She has asked the producers not to invite Sivaji .
