Chennai, May 10 (IANS) The cost of Ocher Studios-Adlabs-Warner Bros venture “Sultan, The Warrior” featuring an animated Rajnikanth in a full length 3D movie touched Rs.600 million, said sources from its financier Exim Bank Saturday.

“The costliest movie in Indian film history is expected to generate business of at least Rs.2.25 billion going by the interest indicated by the distributors following the distribution of over 1,500 prints of its second promo in cinemas,” a source told IANS. “It began as a small Rs.60 million venture, but the unprecedented success of Shivaji last year saw it zoom past Rs.220 million and has now touched ten times its original envisaged cost,” another source acquainted with the deal revealed.

While Ocher Studios is owned by Saundarya, daughter of superstar Rajnikanth, Adlabs is owned by Anil Ambani. Tamil actor Ajith Kumar has been signed to play a key role in Ocher Studios’ untitled solo maiden venture, Saundarya told reporters Saturday. Work on the Ocher-Warner Bros joint venture, a sequel to Kumar’s latest hit “Billa” (third remake of 1978 Hindi hit “Don”) will begin in April next year, its publicists added.

Rajini Kanth and Jagapathi Babu starring Kucheludu (Kuchelan in Tamil) is likely to hit the screens on 18^th July.

Meanwhile, the corporate production company Pyramid Saimira has bagged the distribution rights of the film for Rs60 crore. These rights include Tamil and Telugu versions of the film. The film making would cost Rs40 crores to the producers.

The film is the remake of Malayalam film but the Malayalam dubbed Tamil film will be released in Kerala. Malayalam audience can compare the film with that of original one.

The film is being remade in Hindi with Sharuk in Rajini’s role. The film is titled as Billi Barber.

Dance choreographer cum director cum actor Lawrence Raghavendra is running a home for physically handicapped people in Chennai where there are many inmates. It has been reported by the actor that super star Rajinikanth has agreed to completely pay the food expenses of the centre.

Pyramid Saimira bought the film rights of Kuselan (Kuseladu in Telugu) for 64 crore rupees and it is going to distribute the film in Tamil and Telugu. Kuselan is a remake of a Malayalam movie Katha Parayumbol. K. Balachander’s Kavithalaya and Seven Arts found it interesting and decided to remake it in Tamil and Telugu with the title Kuselan and Kuseladu respectively. In this movie directed by P. Vasu, the highlight is Rajinikanth who appears as himself. Pasupathi, Meena, Vadivelu, Nayantara are also in the cast. The film’s shooting is going on in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Rao Film Studio.

Warner Bros. Pictures India has entered into an exclusive multi-picture deal with Soundarya Rajnikanth’s Ocher Studios.

The pact covers the production and distribution of live-action South Indian films that will be released by Warner Bros. A time frame and other details such as the number of films to be produced will be announced later.

Established in 2005, Ocher’s studio, which employees 80, specializes in VFX and other pre-production services. Its debut production is the upcoming animated feature “Sultan the Warrior,” directed by Soundarya Rajnikant.
