Ash wants to go through Rajini’s experience

Sunday, April 13th, 2008

Is she or not? There have been many speculations about Aishwarya’s presence in Shankar-Rajinikanth’s Robot. Two days back there were rumors that Aish may not do Shankar’s Robot. But her recent interview says that she is doing Robot and she is doing it because of Rajinikanth. “I want to work with Rajni sir, yaar. He is phenomenal. Everyone speaks of this experience. I’ll actually go through the experience. It’s very important for me to come away with something from my films since I give so much,” said Ash in an interview. “It’s a total Rajni-Shankar styled entertainer. There’s no logic as to why I agreed to do it beyond the urge to work with Rajnikanth. Shankar and Rajni sir have approached me for so many films, it’s embarrassing. Ever since we did Jeans together Shankar has approached me for all his films except Boys. Rajni sir, being the senior that he is, has shown no egoistic traits in approaching me for his last four-five films. And my refusal to do his films was never misconstrued by him. I admire him for that. It speaks volumes for his seniority and his calibre as a human being to never take offence to my no,” she added. When asked about the story of the film, “It is hard to define. But technically it will take cinema to another level. I can only say I’ll come away enriched. It’s very important for me to come away with something from my films since I give so much. The much sought after Aishwarya Rai, who has been turning down movies for more than just lack of time, says she accepted Rajnikanth starrer Robot because she just wanted opposite him.” she said.

Many of us have always been curious why it took such a long time (since Jeans) for Aishwarya to be a Shankar heroine. Ash now reveals that of all the songs sequences she has been in, Athisayam from Jeans is one of her favorites. No other song, she said, was so aesthetically shot. Since then she had been eager to do another Shankar film, and was only waiting for a script that would give her a great role. And in Robot she has found the script and role she had been waiting for.

There is some news bytes flying around Tollywood that her role in Robot could be a one with strong negative shades – is it perhaps that of a bad Robot? But so what, she apparently countered when asked, because Shankar will turn even a villain’s role into something extraordinary. Insiders say that her character in Robot could be equal to that of Rajini’s character. Sources also say that the fight master for The Matrix, Yuen-Wo-Ping will be choreographing some special fight sequences for her.

A grand gala event was organized to celebrate the silver jubilee of Sivaji which was held at the Centenary Hall of Madras University, Chennai where the artists and technicians associated with the film were felicitated by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. This function was attended by the prominent luminaries of the industry.

While speaking at the function, Super Star Rajnikanth conveyed his gratitude to the current and former Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu for having watched the film on his request. He also averred that he has been extremely fortunate to have worked under AVM banner and also under director Shankar. He further went on to thank all the technicians of the film as well as his co-stars.

On his future projects, he mentioned that he would be working for his mentor K Balachander’s Kavithalaya productions before he starts his mega project Robot with Shankar. He also prayed the Almighty that Robot should be as successful as Sivaji.

When director Shankar spoke on Robot, he said, “As Robot required a huge budget, I considered Bollywood but it did not work out. Luckily, the success of Sivaji has revived my faith that such films can be tried out in Tamil too. As major forces like super star Rajnikanth and A R Rahman have teamed up together, I am confident that there certainly would be an encore of Sivaji magic”.

Sony Pictures India is said to have been so impressed with Shankar‘s Robot that they have offered to produce it right away, which they say, might cross the Rs.100 crore mark, making it India‘s most expensive movie ever made. The production house is also said to have asked Shankar to convince the superstar to feature in this mega budget sci-fi flick as they feel only he can bring in the moolah, a belief that has stemmed after the stupendous success of Sivaji. According to reports from Chennai media, Rajnikant has given his nod to director Shankar‘s dream project, Robot - a graphical futuristic thriller which is to be shot in Tamil, Telugu and English.

It should be remembered that Shah Rukh Khan rejected this film on the grounds that it doesn‘t have ‘sound script‘. Shankar was supposed to do Robot in Hindi with Shah Rukh Khan in the lead for the Bollywood Badshah‘s Red Chilies Entertainment.

The production house also believes that the project becomes financially viable only if it is made in three major languages – Hindi, Tamil & Telugu.

It is confirmed that Shankar did have a discussion with Rajinikanth on the story. The director‘s side also corroborate that the Superstar was impressed. Now the ball is in Rajinikanth‘s court.
