Maa Ayana Chanti Pilladu music launched

Friday, April 25th, 2008

Music of the film Maa Ayana Chanti Pilladu was released on Monday night at Prasad Labs, Hyderabad. Made on Lucky Media Banner, the film is produced by Bekkam Venugopal and direction is by Raja Vannemreddy. Sivaji, Meera Jasmine and Sangeetha are playing the lead roles.

Bhumika Chawla, accompanied by her hubby Bharath Takur, attended the function as chief guest and released the audio and presented the cassettes to the guests, including Tammareddy Bharadwaja, SV Krishna Reddy, Neelakanta, Harish, Achireddy, Soma Vijayaprakash, MM Srilekha (Music director), Bhaskarabatla Ravi Kumar (lyricist) and others.

Tammareddy Bharadwaja said: “In fact, hero Sivaji has a very gentle heart, with lots of innocence. He always seeks the best for others. So far, he has not received any blockbuster worth his performance and hard work. I am sure, this film would get him the much-required break.”

Director Raja Vannemreddy said: “Actually, I saw this film’s original Tamil film. I instantly wanted to remake it in Telugu, but couldn’t due to huge price for remake rights. After several months, Sivaji gave a CD and asked me to watch, so that it could be remade into Telugu. When I started watching the film, it was nothing but the movie which I wanted to do. It was luck.”

Hero Sivaji said: “This is my third film with Lucky Media. I have done my best. The guests who have come here are my real well-wishers.” MM Srilekha said: “Sivaji took a lot of interest for getting superb audio for this film. There is a remix song in the film, which we hope will be a highlight.”

Telugu actor Shobhan Babu is dead

Friday, March 21st, 2008

Veteran Telugu actor Shobhan Babu, 70, died on Thursday following a cardiac arrest, hospital sources said.

“The patient had apparently suffered a massive heart attack before he was brought here at 10.52 a.m. Doctors tried to revive him but could not,” said a spokesperson of Apollo Hospital.

Born on Jan 14, 1937 as Uppu Shobana Chalapathi Rao, Babu entered films in 1961 by playing walk-in parts.

He got his big break as a hero in the 1965 Telugu classic Veerabhimanyu. Babu and actress Sharada were a hit pair for over 15 years.

In a career spanning 32 years till 1997 when he retired, Babu won the coveted best actor awards from the Andhra Pradesh government five times and from Filmfare magazine on four occasions.

He bagged the central government’s award for the best classical film hero for Bangaru Panjaram in 1970.

Born in Mylavaram near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, Babu was an arts graduate.

He is survived by wife Kanta Kumari, son Karuna Seshu and three daughters Mrudula, Prashanti and Nivedita.

The matinee idol did not allow any of his offspring to start a career in showbiz.

Babu’s fans hailed him as “Andhra Andagadu” (Mr Style of Andhra) since the icon was always seen in designer clothes and a pair of premier brand sunglasses.

The matinee idol was also said to be romantically linked to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalitha, though Babu never confirmed or denied it.

Babu’s body was taken to his residence in a western suburb for the Telugu film industry to pay its homage.

Single HIT directors in tollywood

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Almost all the debutant directors are giving big hits with their first film. However, after giving a big hit, they are falling flat in their second movie though the audiences keep high expectations on them with the blockbuster coming from the director earlier. It is not known whether these first-timers exhausted their entire energy with the first movie itself and are giving flops in their second movie.

There are some other directors, who gave only one hit in their career and failed to see another hit in their lifetime, though they continue to stay in the film industry for years together. Many of these directors gain experience as assistant directors in their early days of career. Either they might have kept all their energy to prepare an excellent script and made it a success or turn overconfident about their calibre and turned lax while doing their subsequent films.

One could easily say that the directors should be confident of earning the stamina of directing 100 films with the experience they gained, but none of the present generation directors possess this quality.

Let us take an example… No Telugu audience could forget the film ‘Tholiprema’. It is such a great movie and its director Karunakaran gave such a fantastic success and moulded the film as a marvel on the celluloid. After that, he did not see a hit on par with that movie.

Even the audiences in general and the film industry in particular lost hopes that he could give a success at that range again. There are several other directors that come under this category including VN Aditya of ‘Manasanta Nuvve’-fame, Surya Kiron of ‘Sathyam’-fame, Prabudeva of ‘Nuvvostanante Ne Vaddantana’-fame, Sukumar of ‘Arya’-fame, Ravikumar Choudary of ‘Yagnam’-fame, Y Kasiviswanath of ‘Nuvvu Leka Nenu Lenu’-fame, Surender Reddy of ‘Athanokkade’-fame.

All these directors shook the Box Office with their debut films, but failed to achieve another hit at that range till date. The film industry coined a fantastic word for such directors. These one-time hit directors are called ‘Single Take Directors’. You are wrong that these so called directors could shoot the scenes in a film with a single take. It actually means, the directors who had only one success in their career.

Music of Sombheri, starring Ali, is tonight released at Taj Residency, Hyderabad. World famous music director AR Rehman arrived at the venue as the chief guest and released the music, presenting the numbers to music directors Koti, Manisharma, Mano (debut music director with Sombheri), Devi Sri Prasad. Madhura Entertainments is marketing the album. Jonnavittulua Ramalingeswara Rao, lyricist turned director, is the captain of the film. Speakers on the dais unanimously felt that AR Rehman made India proud with his music, felt worldwide. Murali Mohan and Paruchuri Gopalakrishna were also present. AR Rehman said: “When I first started my recording studio, I composed music for the first time to the tune of Mano. Earlier, the music directors with whom I had worked couldn’t understand my tunes. It was Koti, who recognized the talent in me. I will never forget my association with Koti and all other music directors here. I always cherished special relationship with Mano. I wish the team of Sombheri a grand success.” Mano rendered a song from the album much to the amusement of the gathering. Producer Venkatrao thanked Rahman and other prominent music directors for gracing the occasion. Director Jonnavittula said: “Sombheri is about the exploits of a lazy fellow in the film. While he remains lazy in the first half, he remains so energetic in the second half and gets into the topnotch position. The highlight of the film is that it was extensively shot in Srikakulam, Muvva and Koochipudi, which represent the 2000 years of Telugu culture, and which fact is lesser known to the Telugus themselves even this day. A special sequence was shot in Dubai with all relevance to the sufferings of those who reach out there in search of livelihood only to end up in starvation under hot sun with scorching temperatures running up to 53 degrees Celsius.” Hero Ali said: “AR Rehman’s music is like a ripened fruit which is tasted by a squirrel or parrot. I did taste such a fruit in my life. I am lucky to have AR Rehman here to launch the audio of my film. I can never forget the patronage I received from directors Koti, Manisharma, Devi Sri Prasad and director Jonnavittula. I am sure; this film will give extraordinary entertainment to one and all.”
